CONCLUSION

The past decade has witnessed major developments in our basic understanding of the pathophysiological mechanisms responsible for ED. The demonstration that most cases of ED are organic has helped to eliminate taboos that previously existed concerning the disorder and have brought it into the public arena.

At the same time, the increased understanding of basic mechanisms and risk factors for ED has resulted in the introduction of safe and effective therapeutic agents, most recently the PDE5 inhibitors. As a result, many more men with ED are accessing care through primary care physicians and urologists.
