Maharashtrian Kalvan   
   
Serves 6

Ingredients
2 lbs Fish 1/2 teaspoon Turmeric
2-3 whole Garlic cloves, crushed slightly  Salt - to taste
1 Green Chilies
1/2 cup Coconut Milk
4 tablespoons Tamarind past 1 Green Chili slit lengthwise and a
pinch of asasfoetida
2 teaspoons Garlic paste
3 tablespoons Oil
2 teaspoons Red Chili Powder  

Method
Marinate fish in the garlic paste, red chili powder, turmeric, tamarind paste and salt for 10 minutes. Heat the oil in a pot. Add the asafoetida, garlic cloves and green chili. Add the marinated fish. Cook the fish until it is almost cooked. Now add the coconut milk. Bring the mixture to one boil. Simmer for 3-4 minutes. Garnish with freshly chopped cilantro leaves. Serve hot with plain rice.
