THE ABSTRACT MUST BE SUBMITTED as follows:
EACH PRESENTING AUTHOR (=first named author on the abstract) CAN SUBMIT ONLY ONE ABSTRACT. (Presenting authors may be co-authors of other abstracts). It is MANDATORY that the first-named, presenting author of any abstract accepted for presentation, be registered and present to deliver his/her paper.

The Abstract should be submitted in the following way:
1. The TITLE, in capital letters, should be short (maximum 2 lines).

2. **Begin a new line with the initials and family name of the presenting author followed by the co-authors (e.g. T. Shah) without titles, with "and" between the last two authors' names. Continue on the same line with the address of the institution(s), where the work was performed.

3. Begin the text of the abstract on a new line. The text should be continuous (no paragraphs) and must not exceed the size of the box.

4. The abstract must be structured. Begin each section with the words Background and Aims:, Materials and Methods:, Results: and Conclusions: in bold characters. One or two sentences should describe the methods, and any aspects of methodology (e.g. use of control groups, randomisation, patient selection, assay variation). The sentences stating the results must include hard data, including statistical analysis.

5. References may NOT be included.

6. Abbreviations may not be used in the title. A list of approved abbreviations and units of expression for use without definition appears in DIABETOLOGIA, Vol. 45, 1, 2005.

7. It is only possible to select one keyword.

8. Please mark preference for abstract presentation.

9. Abstracts CANNOT be submitted as an e-mail attachment.

10. Do not use the symbols for alpha, beta, gamma, etc. Please write out these symbols to avoid possible transmission difficulties.

11. A signed copy of the abstract must be faxed to the Secretariat At Fax: 91-141-5172444 (Dr. Anant Nigam)

12. Do not use tables or graphs.

Authors are not permitted to submit work which they know is likely to be published before the Meeting

RECEIPT OF ABSTRACTS
Abstracts can be e-mailed to smsadikot@vsnl.com or the Conference Secretariat not later than 30 August 2005. A signed copy of the abstract must be posted or faxed to the Secretariat at Fax: 91-141-5172444 (Dr. Anant Nigam) before the deadline. Acknowledgement of receipt will be sent via e-mail or letter to the presenting (=first named) author. In case an acknowledgement for the abstract is not received within a week of submission, please contact

SCIENTIFIC COMMITTEE
The Scientific Committee Members will meet in September 2005 and have the absolute right to accept or reject abstracts. Their decision is final. Only accepted abstracts will be printed. Presenting authors will be advised of the Programme Committee's decision by the third week of September 2005.

POSTER PRESENTATIONS
Poster presentations rank equally with oral presentations. Posters are displayed throughout the Meeting, and should be mounted on the morning of the first day and removed after the end of the Meeting. The Posters represent an excellent opportunity for direct scientific exchange, and are accessible for study at any time during the Meeting hours.

Furthermore, all posters are presented at a special Poster Presentation times when no other scientific session will take place. During the other Poster Presentation Sessions it is recommended that the authors are present or make arrangements that somebody with knowledge of the displayed work is present at their posters Detailed instructions will be sent to the presenting author on notification of acceptance.

PROJECTION FACILITIES
Projection facilities will be available for 5 x 5 cm slides, mounted in glass or metal frame. Power point projection will also be available. Instructions on slide and power point presentations will be sent to the authors, when the programme has been finalised. Both, single or double projection facilities will be available. Any special requirements for papers which are accepted for oral presentations should be communicated well in advance and the Scientific Committee will make all possible efforts to try and see that these requirements are met. Failing this, the facilities available will have to be utilized.
